Rich Hardison


Senior Pastor

Rich Hardison, was born in North Carolina, but was reared in Norfolk, growing up at Tabernacle Church of Norfolk. He attended Norfolk Christian High School. During his teens he worked at the Triple R Ranch where he met his wife, Kathy. He graduated from Old Dominion University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1970 and a Master’s degree in Counseling in 1979. His Biblical training was from Denver Theological Seminary.

Rich worked for five years with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship prior to becoming the Associate Pastor of Tab in 1974. He became Senior Pastor in 1990. In 2007, Pastor Rich stepped away from the Senior Pastorate to focus on missions, small group ministry, and Tab’s ministry to international students. Rich’s wife, Kathy, serves as a strategic member of the Tab’s missions leadership team as Director of Ministry to International Students. Rich and Kathy have two grown children, Janel and Zach.

Robb Esperat


Associate Pastor

Robb Esperat grew up at VBCC and has been serving on the pastoral staff since 2008.  He has a passion for church planting and is always hungry to see God's Gospel move out and in:  further out into communities where Jesus is unknown, and deeper in to the hearts of believers who are being transformed into the image of Christ.  Robb and his wife Alisa live in central Virginia Beach with their four sons, Robertson, Sim, Anders, and Sebastian.

Mike Lane


Pastor of Missional Living

Mike Lane is a native of Hampton Roads, but in 1981, he and his wife, Joy,  were sent out by Tabernacle Church of Norfolk to be Great Commission workers in East Asia.  His degrees include a BA and MA in English Literature from Virginia Tech, Graduate Bible Certificate from Columbia International University, and a PhD in Leadership Studies from Regent University.   During the years in Asia, the Lanes raised three children—Matt, Andrew, and Rachel.  In addition, they taught ESL, founded and managed businesses, and led Great Commission teams in restricted access environments.

In February of 2015, Mike returned from abroad to join the staff of Virginia Beach Community Chapel to shepherd the outreach of the church, both local and global. He is excited about mentoring and futuring with those who are seeking God’s path for their lives. In his spare time, Mike writes, paints, plays music, and looks for fun on the water.

Zach Hardison


Worship Pastor

Zach was born and raised in Norfolk, VA, growing up at Tabernacle Church of Norfolk. He attended Norfolk Christian High School. He graduated from Old Dominion University earning a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Russian in 2002.  In his freshman year, he met his wife, Amy, whom he married in his senior year.  During his college years, Zach worked part-time as a bus-boy, a janitor, a framer, a youth pastor, and a butcher.

Zach worked for five years as an insurance claims adjuster prior to accepting the position of Worship Pastor at Tabernacle Church of Norfolk in 2008. He served in that role for three years before transitioning to VBCC in 2011.  Zach and Amy have three young children, Chloe, Cameron, and Max.

Lillian Parisher


Children's Minister

Lillian Parisher was born and reared in Norfolk.  In preparation for Christian ministry Lillian attended Wingate College in North Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas where she received a Master of Arts degree in Religious Education.

Lillian has been involved in ministry to children, teens and families in various church and social service settings for more than two decades.  Her church work includes serving as Preschool and Childhood Ministry Director at Swift Creek Baptist Church in Midlothian, Virginia for 10 years.  Lillian also served children, families and birthparents in Texas, North Carolina and Virginia for a total of 12 years as a Christian adoption social worker.  Lillian’s love for the Lord Jesus Christ is the motivation for her service.  She is committed to helping parents fulfill their role as the spiritual leaders in their family and providing a positive environment ...

Curt Kenney


Youth and Family Pastor

Curt grew up in Yorktown, Virginia and met his wife, Catherine, through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at James Madison University, where he earned B.B.A.'s in Finance and International Business.  He spent the next four years working in microfinance and international development in Chicago, Charlottesville, and Kenya, before marrying Catherine and sensing God's call into pastoral ministry.  From 2010–2013, he completed an M.Div. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, located on Boston's North Shore.  While in seminary, he served as University Ministry Coordinator at Citylife Presbyterian Church of Boston (PCA).  He and Catherine then moved into the city, where he came on staff as a Pastoral Intern at Citylife for a year.

He was then brought on as Youth and Family Pastor at VBCC in 2014. He enjoys snowboarding, tennis, reading, and spending days off with Catherine and his three daughters Caroline, Julia and Elizabeth.  His greatest passion is for the gospel of grace to  reach ...

Valerie Scott


Office Manager

Valerie grew up in Virginia Beach, VA and attended Welch College in Nashville, TN for a time. When she returned to Virginia Beach, she reconnected with a childhood friend and was soon married thereafter.  She and Jeff have been married since 2003 and have three adorable girls, Madelyn, Samantha, and Jessica.

While raising her three girls, Valerie has also worked in banking and as an advocate for long term care residents.  She has attended Virginia Beach Community Chapel since 2006, and joined the staff in June of 2016.  Working at the Chapel allows her the opportunity to live out her passion for serving others while serving the Lord.

Emmanuel Ambane


Director of International Student Ministries

Emmanuel Ambane is originally from Cameroon in Central Africa.  He came to the USA in 2006 when he was recruited on a soccer scholarship at Old Dominion University. Emmanuel played four seasons for the Monarchs and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

After graduation, Emmanuel had the desire to pursue a professional soccer career, but God re-directed his steps towards ministry. In 2010, Emmanuel started serving international students, like himself, in Virginia Beach and shortly after he began graduate school at Columbia International University to be better equipped and educated for cross-cultural ministry. He graduated from Columbia International University with a Master of Divinity in Bible Exposition in 2014.

Emmanuel worked at Old Dominion University as a soccer coach and served at a boarding program in Columbia, South Carolina as a houseparent for fourteen international students. He has been part of our summer outreach ministry since 2010. In January 2015 ...
