DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

- Read Revelation 15:3-4.  What were the great and amazing deeds God had done?  (See Exodus 14).

- We tend to see God's judgment as a source of fear but not a reason to worship, yet God's people broke out in ecstatic worship after he saved them.  The entire book of Revelation can be described as an "end-times Exodus on a cosmic scale."  How is the final judgment of God a reason for us to worship him?

- Each of the plague judgments is directly correlated with an idol being worshiped.  Read Romans 1:24-25.  Why are we so inclined to worship created things rather than the Creator?

- What is so destructive about giving our hearts and minds over to the worship of idols?  What are some of the things you find yourself worshiping apart from God and why do they lead to anxiety or boredom?

- Many of us feel as though our only options are to A) Enjoy our idols or B) Worship God.  How can we rightly enjoy the gifts God gives us while worshiping him alone?

- How does the grace of the gospel keep us from worshiping created things over the Creator?  Reflect on the great and amazing deeds of the Lord God Almighty.

- Read Exodus 9:1.  If the OT Exodus is a microcosm, or foreshadowing of the cosmic, end-times Exodus depicted in Revelation, how does this passage help us understand the final Exodus?  Spend time praying for repentant hearts that are deceived and hardened by futile idol worship but are inclined to worship the one true God.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Who is the author of Rev?  What do you know about him?

Since John was with Jesus three years, why would he fall at his feet now (v17)?

What is revealed about Jesus?  Why does God want Jesus know as "Word," "Alpha & Omega," and other titles?

Close your eyes while a member reads 1:12-18.  What is an encounter with the resurrected Jesus like?

What is this book all about?

After hearing Pastor Rich's sermon, in what ways is the book of Revelation: misunderstood, messianic, mysterious and meaningful?

In what ways do you anticipate an encounter with the resurrected Jesus?

MISSIONAL TREASURE HUNT

Jesus has placed us here, and he stands in our midst.

We are the lampstand in our city.

- Identify your ‘city’ – an area of focus for your group over the next 8 weeks.  This is likely the neighborhood of the home you most often meet in.  Draw a map of your city’s streets, natural boundaries, etc.

- This is your ‘missional map’.  We will fill it in a little each week.

- Map your regular places (homes, schools, frequented stores, etc)

- Who is in your neighborhood? Name and map as many people as you can by name.

NEXT WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE

“To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat

from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” Rev 2:7b
