DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. According to our culture, what are the marks of a 'great leader'?  Go around the room and have each person name one attribute he/she thinks our culture desires in a great leader.

2. What does the angel invite John to witness in v1?

3. What does John actually see in vv2-6?  In light of the angel's invitation (v1), why do you think he 'wondered' at what he saw?

4. Three times in this chapter, the beastly world power is the one "who was, and is not, and is to come (or "is about to go to destruction").  This is meant to be an insulting parody of God's title, "The One who was, and is, and is to come."  Identify a modern 'beast' that usurps the worship of God.  In what ways does it fall short of God's true power and glory?

5. Historically, the title "King of Kings" is one that many leaders took upon themselves as they conquered opposing nations.  In v14, how is the one and only true King of Kings identified?

6. Jesus is given over 30 different titles in Revelation. What does the title "Lamb" in v14 tell us about the greatness of Jesus' leadership?

7. In your sphere of influence, what does it look like to be an ambassador of Jesus the "Lamb-Leader"?  How does Christ's character affect your home life, work place, political discourse, etc?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Who is the author of Rev?  What do you know about him?

Since John was with Jesus three years, why would he fall at his feet now (v17)?

What is revealed about Jesus?  Why does God want Jesus know as "Word," "Alpha & Omega," and other titles?

Close your eyes while a member reads 1:12-18.  What is an encounter with the resurrected Jesus like?

What is this book all about?

After hearing Pastor Rich's sermon, in what ways is the book of Revelation: misunderstood, messianic, mysterious and meaningful?

In what ways do you anticipate an encounter with the resurrected Jesus?

MISSIONAL TREASURE HUNT

Jesus has placed us here, and he stands in our midst.

We are the lampstand in our city.

- Identify your ‘city’ – an area of focus for your group over the next 8 weeks.  This is likely the neighborhood of the home you most often meet in.  Draw a map of your city’s streets, natural boundaries, etc.

- This is your ‘missional map’.  We will fill it in a little each week.

- Map your regular places (homes, schools, frequented stores, etc)

- Who is in your neighborhood? Name and map as many people as you can by name.

NEXT WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE

“To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat

from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” Rev 2:7b
