DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

- What deception or cover-up do you recall that affected many people on a personal, national or worldwide scale?

- Revelation 13 draws heavily on a section from the Old Testament that was hugely popular in the first century. Read Daniel 7:2-8. What similarities and differences do you see between Daniel 7 and Revelation 13?

- The ultimate powers of the spiritual world prefer not to show themselves, but to act through others. They choose secondary or tertiary intermediaries; they give them some of their power; they back them up where necessary. We are today perhaps more aware than some of our forebears of how what we call "dark forces" go to work.

- What are some of the agents that do the dirty work of the dark forces in our world?

- In verses 3-4, how do the inhabitants of the earth respond to the monster (or "the beast," as some translations put it)?

- Why and how does the monster make life miserable for the people of God (vv. 5-8)?

- What must characterize the people of God in these kinds of miserable times (v10)?  What hope is offered of success (v8)?

- What are the most powerful lures or pressures Christians face today that would tempt them away from genuine worship of God in Christ?  What specific ways can we resist and persevere in the face of these satanic influences?

Revelation is Misunderstood

Revelation is Messianic

Revelation is Mysterious

Revelation is Meaningful

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Who is the author of Rev?  What do you know about him?

Since John was with Jesus three years, why would he fall at his feet now (v17)?

What is revealed about Jesus?  Why does God want Jesus know as "Word," "Alpha & Omega," and other titles?

Close your eyes while a member reads 1:12-18.  What is an encounter with the resurrected Jesus like?

What is this book all about?

After hearing Pastor Rich's sermon, in what ways is the book of Revelation: misunderstood, messianic, mysterious and meaningful?

In what ways do you anticipate an encounter with the resurrected Jesus?

MISSIONAL TREASURE HUNT

Jesus has placed us here, and he stands in our midst.

We are the lampstand in our city.

- Identify your ‘city’ – an area of focus for your group over the next 8 weeks.  This is likely the neighborhood of the home you most often meet in.  Draw a map of your city’s streets, natural boundaries, etc.

- This is your ‘missional map’.  We will fill it in a little each week.

- Map your regular places (homes, schools, frequented stores, etc)

- Who is in your neighborhood? Name and map as many people as you can by name.

NEXT WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE

“To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat

from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.” Rev 2:7b
